The painting was started on May 6th. I returned to the site on July 14th to finish. Even though I was standing in the exact same spot on both days, the lighting and atmospheric conditions were different. That's what's so wonderful about painting en plein air. But this morning the distant hills were shrouded in mist and held the most beautiful purples. The sun was showing a new grass green on the meadow, making the shadows seem even darker.
